Hoboken Cricket Club History
Hoboken Cricket Club was officially formed on March 26th, 2001.
With members hailing from all over the world, the club has become one of the premiere social cricket clubs in the New York/New
Jersey area geared to promote this wonderful game. Hoboken itself has had a significant relationship with cricket, as it was the site of
an international match in 1858 between the United States and Canada, around the same time baseball was first introduced in the
United States. The venue was Elysian Fields, also known as the site of the first baseball game. After being one of the founding clubs
of the Millennium Cricket League, Hoboken CC’s focus since 2006 has been on social cricket, playing in a social league and in an
abundance of friendly matches in New York, Pennsylvania, Connecticut and New Jersey. Highlights of the club include introducing
elementary school kids to the game, tours to Antigua in 2002 and 2003 playing local teams including a beach match versus former
West Indian captain, Richie Richardson’s Lashings side and attending the India and Australia test matches. HCC was also part of the
Marin Cricket Festival in California in 2005 and played their first two-day test match on Rhode Island in 2006. HCC was selected by
the British Consulate in New York to host matches versus the officers and crew of the Royal Navy’s H.M.S. Nottingham in 2005 and
H.M.S. Manchester in 2007.
